Look, I get it.
Between cash flow, payroll, taxes, rent, personnel, supply-chain issues, and a million other challenges, running a business is freaking hard.
The long sleepless nights, the crappy fast-food meals, the missed family gatherings – it all takes its toll on entrepreneurs’ personal lives and their families. But that’s what it takes to make it—HARD WORK.
When you add the COVID pandemic into the equation and the way advertising, marketing and communications have fundamentally transformed in the last decade; it leaves many business owners wondering how to remain relevant in today’s world. Pre-Covid’s major indicators showed that the old marketing and advertising strategies didn’t work well; Post-Covid, these indicators are even more apparent.
The situation leaves many business owners struggling and confused on how to get their businesses and brands noticed. Hard work doesn’t seem to be enough.
We are living inside a very transformative period for advertising, marketing and branding. The biggest cultural shift in a century has opened up a HUGE window of opportunity for small businesses to play a much bigger game, yet most companies are missing out!
Unlike any time in history, it’s now possible to beat the big brands at their own game – for pennies on the dollar. It’s happening everyday as companies stuck inside the “Old Strategy” game, are losing ground to much smaller brands that play by the new rules.
In fact, a few smart companies are abandoning the Old Strategies for a protocol so powerful that every company that uses it will experience growth opportunities beyond their wildest dreams.
ADAPT OR DISAPPEAR!
The evidence is crystal clear. smart phones have been the biggest disrupter of human behavior in our lifetimes. They have completely changed the way we communicate, consume information and engage with the world.
The world is mesmerized by SMART PHONES.
Yet marketing strategies haven’t caught up with reality of what’s REALLY going on. As a result, this has opened up an incredible opportunity unlike we have ever seen…
Look around you. Virtually EVERYWHERE you go people are captivated by their smart phones. At malls, dentist offices, sporting events, restaurants, check-out lines, train stations, schools, workplaces, bathrooms, living rooms – people’s attention has been diverted. This behavior has fundamentally changed the way people consume information rendering traditional media less effective.
Consider this. People are clearly watching less TV – and IF they do, the smart phone is the first thing they pick up during a TV commercial. Nearly 57% of viewers pick up their phones during that expensive commercial!
The same holds true for billboards. People aren’t looking up, they are looking down at their phones as they drive by – completely missing the message, and this includes the drivers!
And the list goes on! Print. Magazines. Radio. Cable. Coupon books…. ALL the old strategies that are slowly becoming less and less relevant and effective – they are outdated and a poor value. The return on investment is pathetic – except maybe for the agencies producing them.
The marcomm and advertising world is being turned upside-down, opening up incredible growth opportunities in the new frontier of marketing.
And the pace of change it’s not going to stop anytime soon. With the expansion of G5 it’s only going to accelerate. For those businesses left behind the carnage will be brutal.
In our highly commoditized world, BRAND is the great differentiator as companies struggle to set themselves apart. Executed properly, a companies BRAND is its most valuable asset in a world of sameness and mediocrity.
Every company wants the same thing. To expand, prosper and build a strong connection with its customers.
Power Brand is the modern approach to making customer connections. It’s also about discovering, developing and deploying an authentic brand persona and amplifying that message across the most efficient channels – Websites, social media and messaging networks.
Never before has there been a better time for getting in front of so many customers. The internet and mobile devices have opened the gateway to the most amazing opportunity to connect in modern history.
A brand is much more than a logo. The logo is just a symbol. Although we would argue a logo is very important and should be taken seriously. Power brands like Apple have mastered this. However, to be truly called a Power Brand, you need to dig much deeper – deep into the companies soul – it’s DNA.
Just like people, companies have a unique personality. A personality that needs to be effectively communicated inside the branding process. Thoughtful consideration must be put forth into things like color, fonts, voice, attitude – from the way a company aswers its phone, to how employees engage with their customers to now a company is presented on social media. A branded company just looks put together and refined… gaining trust through visual cues.
Consider this. A cup of coffee is just a cup of coffee… it’s contents worth pennies. Yet slap a Starbucks logo on it, and it becomes a 3 dollar cup of coffee that a customer will gladly pay. That’s because of the emotional ettachment and the experience that they get from that cup of coffee. Your are paying for the intangible… yet these intangibles add a ton of value to Starbucks.
People are affected by what they see and a sloppy presentation can be seriously detrimental.
These disciplines are difficult to quantify in dollar terms yet they have the power to deeply touch the subconcious and form the basis for long term attachments. They can and do affect how a customer feels about a certain brand. These subliminal cues reinforce the “gut” feeling we get about a certain company. Decisions are formulated within seconds as our instinctual skills kick in. With the speed of the internet, a company can be accepted or rejected within seconds. Decisions on whether to stick around OR further engage as almost instant.
These instinctual cues are clearly exhibitied in nature. Example here. This allows for a much deeper connection with it’s audience. The powerful brands today all have a deep connection with their customers. This builds trust, desire and ultimately loyalty.
